Affiliate links - technical details
As an affiliate, you cannot just link one of our pages, because we
have to know that a visitor came from your site. Instead use this
link
http://www.tibetshop.com/cgi-bin/affiliate.cgi
This will direct the visitors to our home page, and add the referring
site (your site) to our logs.
Further, if you want to link other than our home page, add a question
mark "?" followed by the other page name to the link, for
example
?Paintings.html
The whole link will then look like this:
http://www.tibetshop.com/cgi-bin/affiliate.cgi?Paintings.html
If the page you are referring to (Paintings.html for example) doesn't
exist, the user will see our home page.
Linking search results
There is a special hack for linking Tibet Shop search results directly.
The search result is an URL like any other page, but it contains a
question mark (?). Two question marks in one URL are not allowed,
so in order to maintain the first '?' in 'affiliate.cgi?', one must
replace the latter with '-q-'.
For example, to always have an up-to-date link to our Tara thangkas
and statues, the link in your html code would look like this:
http://www.tibetshop.com/cgi-bin/affiliate.cgi?/cgi-bin/tibetsearch.cgi-q-keyword=tara
Multiple keywords must have a plus sign between
http://www.tibetshop.com/cgi-bin/affiliate.cgi?/cgi-bin/tibetsearch.cgi-q-keyword=tara+statue
Of course you don't have to bother your visitors with the URL, but
show them something more informative like
Tara
statues at Tibet Shop
